My production management task was based around the MTV show "Cribs". The whole project was based around organisation and using my time efficently.
the initial idea of doing a Cribs themed film was fairly straight forward, however i had to take into account that during a one of the weeks i was given to film in i couldnt film because i was at work experience. This then made it even more crucial for me to manage my time effectivly and get everything that needed to be done before filming done.
First of all i had to write my paperwork. I didnt really have much trouble with this part of the project because i managed to get most of it done during class time. I also had to record a presintation about my idea. Making the presintation i found fairly easy however recording it i found harder because i couldn't find a quiet place. I found the script one of the hardest things to do throughout the whole process because i had no idea of what to write or how to write it so the whole dialouge flowed smoothly.
The next part was my filming. I found this part went fairly straight forward however i was using the "Steady-Cam" for the first time and was having trouble getting used to how it worked. I also found when doing shots outside i was having trouble with the wind and people getting into shot. When filming in the i found that some of the shots looked too close because i was having to move the camera in such a small area and it tripod was too big and chunky to fit in the spaces i could. In total it took me about 2-3 days of filming due to camera batteries running out and my actor having other commitments in the evenings after school. After already loosing a week of filming time due to having work experience i thought that the filming went fairly well and was pleased that i was able to have some extra time to re-do some other shots that i felt could have been improved.
When i moved onto editing the first problem i had was getting the footage from the camera to upload onto the computer. I had to upload it onto three different computers before it uploaded successfully. This was due to lack of hard drive space on the computer. When i finally uploaded it the next problem i found was the camera hadn't recorded the sound properly. It kept cutting out randomly. We couldn't find the source of the problem so the final cut had to stay that way. I also found that some of the lighting was darker than it appeared on the camera. Other than that i found the editing quite easy although i feel it was somewhat rushed because i had lost that one week at the beginning of the 2 filming weeks.
Furthermore i think that the whole project went very well. I feel that i organised my time efficiently enough to complete the tasks on time. I also learnt about using the steady-cam and some of the different techniques i can get using it that i cant get while using a tripod. I think that i over-came the problems i encountered well.
